Flat Cap Hotels launches The Courthouse Hotel, Cheshire

The newest venture from Cheshire born and bred hospitality group Flat Cap Hotels, The Courthouse Hotel, officially reopened its doors on Saturday 1st July. The former Knutsford Crown Court is one of the town’s most iconic buildings and will open as a prestigious venue to host conferences and events.

Using the original features and architecture of the Grade II listed Sessions building, which was built in 1818 and designed by architect, George Moneypenny, the stunning property has been refurbished to reflect the history and grandeur. Over the last 18 months, Flat Cap Hotels has converted the historic building into a unique, luxury events and banqueting venue with a reception capacity of 400 in The Court Room.

The Moneypenny Suite has a capacity of 100 for private dinners and events as well as six other flexible rooms which can accommodate 10-100 guests. Before the end of the year, 10 luxury bedrooms will be available in the wings of the building, with a further 40 bedrooms being added at the rear of the site in 2018.

The Courthouse Hotel is easily accessible by car, just 2 miles from Junction 19 of the M6 motorway and 20 minutes from Manchester Airport. The hotel is located opposite Knutsford train station, which has direct links to Manchester and Chester.
Dominic Heywood, co-found of Flat Cap Hotels commented, “The idea behind the Flat Cap Hotels group is to turn historical and interesting properties into premium unique venues providing exceptional service. The Courthouse aims to establish itself as one of the leading events spaces in the North West”.

In 2010, the Ministry of Justice closed the Sessions House and moved local judicial proceedings to Crewe, leaving the magnificent Georgian building empty. Following the successful refurbishment of The Vicarage in Holmes Chapel, and having secured the site in Knutsford, Flat Cap Hotels embarked on its most ambitious and unique project to date, restoring the majestic property to its former glory and reinstating it back into the community.
The Barristers Restaurant & Bar has opened its doors at the iconic venue, providing 90 covers serving British seasonal menus led by Executive Chef Stephen Tuke. The restaurant now offers lunch, afternoon tea and an evening menu. Flat Cap Hotels commissioned Vermilion Studios based in Knutsford, to produce eight pieces of artwork for the restaurant. The artwork was designed by local artist James Blankhorn who created portraits of famous past convicts which now adorn the room including Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen, Sirius Black and Elvis Presley.

Later in July will see the opening of the unique Rooftop Gardens, a 100 capacity cocktail and Champagne bar which will be filled with botanical herbs, a Chef’s garden, and seasonal flowers.

Flat Cap Hotels is a family-run hotel group, founded in 2015 by brothers Dominic and Oliver Heywood. The group launched The Vicarage Freehouse & Rooms in Spring 2015 as the first property in its portfolio.
