Kitchen jealousy and garden envy: New survey reveals which living spaces makes Yorkshire most envious

If you want to keep up with the Joneses then pay attention to your garden and kitchen. A new survey, commissioned by furniture fittings specialist Häfele, has identified the rooms and spaces that people in Yorkshire are most envious of when visiting friends and family.

Any homeowner displaying green-fingered garden prowess is likely to raise the green-eyed monster of jealousy. Over a third of respondents (35%) admitted to being most envious of the garden space of others. Hot on the heels comes kitchen envy. A beautiful kitchen was the cause of most envy for over a quarter (30%) of respondents.

Next on the envy-scale comes a lovely lounge – with 17% of respondents nominating this room as the one that they covet most. Respondents were less swayed by bathrooms or bedrooms, the cause of most envy for only 14% and 5% respectively.

Chloe Thacker, Marketing Director, Häfele comments: “It is no surprise to see gardens and kitchens coming top of the envy-scale, particularly given the trend for ‘inside-out living’, where the garden becomes an extension of the kitchen space with seating, decking and clever design.

“Improving one’s own home is a constant cycle – trends change and new solutions in storage, lighting, layout and more enable rooms to be completely transformed. There is so much choice out there when it comes to style, finishes and fittings. Rather than simply being envious, people are taking inspiration from friends and family and making improvements to their own living spaces to deliver their very own wow factor.”
