Major HGV investment to deliver for leading Sheffield logistics firm

A leading Yorkshire logistics firm has announced a six-figure investment into the expansion of its fleet of vehicles.

On the back of a strong economic performance leading to rapid expansion, DBL Logistics, on Tinsley Park Road, Sheffield, has invested more than £500,000 into six new Scania HGVs, which will swell the number of vehicles at the business’s disposal from 17 to 23.

The firm has agreed a deal for six of Scania’s most fuel-efficient models, which will further enhance DBL’s service.

Three Scania R450s and three P280s will arrive at DBL Logistics later this year to further bolster the firm’s fleet. Three of the new 30-foot vehicles will feature Scania’s latest Opticruise transmission, with the P280s also featuring two-tonne tuckaway tail lifts made by leading Dutch tail lift developers, Dhollandia.

The investment in the fleet expansion also highlights an important change to the management structure at DBL Logistics.

Managing director David Clarkson rubber-stamped the deal, however it was operations, transport and health and safety manager Adam Boyd, recently certified as an Associate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, who spearheaded the project and investment.

Adam’s new qualification, a sought-after certificate in the logistics industry, is seen as a major step forward for the family-run firm and is a move which will see DBL Logistics become an industry leader in health and safety.

David Clarkson, managing director of DBL Logistics, said: “This investment is an exciting step forward for DBL Logistics, in more ways than one.

“Not only is the Scania investment a huge development for DBL, but Adam’s recent step up in his accreditation with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has seen his role develop further, something which will also take our business forward.

“Investing in our fleet is crucial to the development of the business, as is our recent staff restructuring, which includes Adam’s new role.

“The new vehicles will help us considerably improve our fuel efficiency, reduce our service costs and offer our customers even better value for money.”

John Crossland, Scania’s area sales manager for the East Region, said: “It’s been great working with DBL Logistics to update their existing fleet of vehicles.

“This latest deal has been in the making for the past few months, and with DBL Logistics an industry leader in Yorkshire, it’s been fantastic working with such a forward-thinking, extremely well-run family firm.

“We hope this will be the start of an exciting partnership going forward.”
