Steve opens the doors to business success

A Sheffield man who branched out to set up his own business after working for his dad is reaping the rewards after growing his company from humble beginnings to a business with a turnover in excess of £4m in the last financial year.

Steve Naylor, managing director at Sheffield-based Doordeals, has seen his business develop significantly in recent years and the company has now become one of the leading independent online timber door retailers in the UK – recently celebrating its 10th birthday.

Steve’s dad John, helped launch one of Sheffield’s first hardware and door shop, Abbeydale DIY Centre, way back in 1971. Steve joined his dad back in the 90s, however, in 2007, Steve recognised there was an opportunity to develop online business and decided to set up on his own – and Doordeals.co.uk was born.

Initially set up as an e-commerce business, Doordeals was able to reach out to customers across the whole country. As a result, Steve invested in a fleet of specially adapted vehicles and logistics provision to allow delivery anywhere in the UK – something Steve feels sets them apart from other businesses.

He later went on to open his own showroom, based on Saxon Road, Heeley, specialising in offering a diverse range of quality internal and external timber doors and accessories.

Steve, aged 45, has now grown his business from employing just two members of staff in when the business was first started, to having a dedicated team of more than 20 full and part time employees.

Steve, who lives in Bradway, said: “I’m extremely proud of everything we have achieved at Doordeals since we launched the business. Thanks to a lot of hard work and dedication from our entire team we have seen the business flourish over the years and we’re delighted with where we are now as a company.

“We pride ourselves on our exceptional levels of customer service and ensure that when customers are using our website they will receive the same level of service that they would in our showroom.

“However, we constantly strive to stay at the forefront of our market and to deliver exceptional service to our customers. We are working hard to expand our product range even further to ensure we can give our customer exactly what they want, which will in turn contribute to our continued growth as a national online retailer. “

The company has also introduced a bespoke sizing service, where customers who require non-standard door configurations.

In 2016, Doordeals also became a major sponsor for Sheffield United Football Club, agreeing a six figure, three-year deal to become the new back-of-shirt sponsors of the Blades Adidas home and away kits.
