Alison Munro Explains How National College for High Speed Rail is Nurturing Talent for the Future

Alison Munro, former Managing Director of Development at High Speed Two Limited and current Chair of the National College for High Speed Rail, will take to the stage at Buy Yorkshire to raise awareness of apprenticeships and technical training and what the College is doing to provide the skills needed.

Addressing the audience to explain the benefits that apprenticeships can deliver, Alison will showcase the opportunities that have been created by High Speed 2 and what the College is doing to provide training for those that have joined the establishment since its launch in September 2017.

Taking to the stage for a second time, having previously featured at the event in 2013, Alison will also explain how businesses can work with the College to make sure that their employees have the skills and training required to meet with the changing requirements of sectors that are quickly evolving.

Alison comments: “There is a great opportunity to make sure that businesses have the skills they need both for today and future years to come. The world is changing and so too are the talents that are required from a workforce. Take transport as an example, the sector is evolving so quickly and so too are the roles that are available within the market.

“It is absolutely essential that we invest in talent and that we recognise the value in making sure that our workforce is suitably prepared for the future. The College is the first in the UK to focus on HS2 and to maximise the growing opportunity that it presents to business and individuals.”

Founding Director of Buy Yorkshire, Geoff Shepherd, comments: “We are really pleased to welcome Alison back to the stage at Buy Yorkshire. Many of us will have heard about the National College for High Speed Rail but few of us will know more specifically about what a fantastic training facility it is and exactly what people can learn when they are there.

“Knowing that we have a nationally recognised institution on the doorstep is a further accolade for our region and is certainly something that should be celebrated.”

Alison will take to the stage at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Tuesday 15 May when she will join more than 20 speakers including Gerald Ratner, entrepreneur; Uzma Sattar, Customer Success Director for Microsoft; Alex Cruz, Chairman and CEO of British Airways and Chris Hamilton, Head of Digital Communications at number 10 Downing Street.

The event is expected to welcome more than 200 exhibitors and over 4,000 delegates making it the largest business to business conference in the North of England.
