Sheffield conveyancing firm PM Property Lawyers has this week launched a new scheme to train the property lawyers of the future.
The ‘PM Passport’ is an innovative programme that means entry-level apprentices can progress their careers and start on the path to becoming senior property lawyers. The programme is also open to all other levels of employee so everyone has the opportunity to enhance their careers. PMPL’s property lawyers are specialists in the conveyancing process for home sales and purchases and need extensive knowledge of property law, practice and procedure.
Trainees have their own PM Passport to carry with them throughout their time at PMPL, with certificates and stamps for every level they pass.
Managing director Harvey Harding comments:
“It’s so important that our team can see a clear path for progression and that they know where their career can take them. The programme is flexible so they simply choose to go as far as they want. And it really benefits homebuyers and sellers too, since the training means their property lawyer will always be up to speed with the latest developments and on the ball with new legislation.”
The scheme is designed to identify potential ‘stars’ and train them in every aspect of the conveyancing process. Sarah Thackray has been with the firm since 2014 and has already moved from an administrative role as an apprentice to become a trainee property lawyer.
She comments:
“After two years learning the ropes as a conveyancing assistant, I’m now starting my training as a property lawyer with the PM Passport. I will hopefully have my own caseload soon so it’s a really exciting opportunity to progress and further my career.”
Training manager Samantha Gabbitass has devised the programme and will be delivering the training.
She says:
“Five trainee property lawyers are starting their journey today, and we have more waiting to go. I know they’re going to achieve great things and I’m proud to be helping to make this happen.”
