Barratt Homes Donates £2000 To Local Armistice Project

Five-star housebuilder Barratt Manchester has sponsored £2,000 towards the Longridge Cluster School’s Armistice Project.

The ‘Longridge Cluster Schools Armistice Project’ involves 500 children and adults from the Longridge Cluster Schools working together to perform a show in Preston Guild Hall called ‘Armistice’.

The show, written by Barnacre Road Primary School Head Teacher – Simon Wallis, will be performed on November 11th 2018, which marks the centenary for the end of The Great War. The performance aims to tell the story and remember the key events of the conflict through music, dance, drama, poetry and visual arts and will culminate with an act of remembrance.

The project is expected to engage the wider Longridge and Lancashire community as it was a historical event that touched so many families and communities particularly so in the North of England.

As part of the project, children and staff at the Longridge Cluster School will knit 19,240 poppies to represent the number of men who died on July 1st 1916 – the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Michaela Lancaster, Sales Director at Barratt Manchester said, “We are delighted to be sponsoring such a fantastic project and it is great to see the children getting involved in every way they can.

“As our Bowland Meadow development is nearby it is the perfect opportunity for us to remember the heritage of the area and also work closely with the school, which is something we hope to continue going forwards.”

Mr Wallis, Head Teacher at Barnacre Road Primary School said, “The Longridge Schools Cluster are hugely grateful to Barratt Homes for their generous sponsorship of the WW1 Armistice Project, which is a hugely significant community event in Longridge”
