Barratt Manchester Encourages Safe Driving By Using Road Safety Signs Designed By Children

School children in Lancashire have designed a collection of road safety signs that will be displayed around the Barratt Manchester development, Hawley Gardens in Thornton- Cleveleys.

The children, aged between five and 13, entered their drawings in to Barratt Manchester’s competition and the winning five designs, will soon be printed and proudly displayed in open spaces at the Hawley Gardens development.

The initiative comes after recent research commissioned by road safety charity Brake and insurance firm Churchill, showed that half of all drivers in the UK admit to breaking 20mph speed limits. A poll of 2,000 motorists found that 52% have driven faster than 24mph in restricted areas over the last year.

Michaela Lancaster, Director of Sales at Barratt Manchester said: “Safe driving is an extremely important practise and something we encourage across all of our developments and further afield. These signs are a good way of teaching children of a young age about road safety and a reminder to drivers to be aware of the hazards. We also hope the kids will be proud to see their own work displayed around Hawley Gardens.”

Each of the five young winners also received a prize of a £20 book voucher donated by Barratt Manchester.

The Hawley Gardens development hosts a range of three and four bedroom homes starting from £164,995.

The family friendly estate will host two sets of each winning design, meaning a total of ten new signs will be displayed throughout the development. The initiative has been highly praised by homeowners currently living at the development.

Thornton-Cleveleys has excellent shopping areas and bustling markets, a choice of local grocers and exclusive shops to explore. Along the promenade there is traditional seaside entertainment as well as amusement arcades. For a quieter experience visit the Wyre Estuary Country Park which is home to some of the region’s most beautiful scenery and wildlife.

The development is conveniently located near primary and secondary schools as well as local shops and the beautiful Wyre Estuary Country Park making it an ideal place for family living.
