Bradford interiors company rolls out red carpet at new site

A Bradford business is celebrating the dawn of a new era, and investment across the company, with larger offices and warehouse facilities in the city to provide a platform for growth.

Melrose Interiors, the largest independent supplier of rugs to the UK on-line retail market, has recently integrated its two production and distribution facilities under one roof.

The new 90,000 sq ft premises at Park View Mills in Wibsey, will increase operational efficiency and grow its capabilities.

Investing £900,000 in the last 12 months, the company now has a new racking system, and the latest manufacturing technology to equip the business for future growth and continuous improvement.

Andy Murphy, managing director of Melrose Interiors who has spent his working life in the Bradford district, explains: “We currently hold around 4,500 different lines with more than 230,000 items in stock at any time and we’re on track to fulfil 400,000 same-day dispatches in 2019. Our new premises mean we will be able to expand on that capacity to 1.5 million.

“We’ve invested almost £1 million in the last year and the greatest expenditure has been on developing our own bespoke IT systems to create the most efficient process possible. We now operate an entirely paperless system which includes real-time delivery updates and branded labelling sent by our system on behalf of our clients.

“Our new premises enable us to add even more value to our customers, many of which are some of the biggest brands in the UK. Our faster, more efficient service, and dedication to audit compliance, will strengthen our position in the market.”

The business has also developed two new complimentary service streams: [RE]lay, the company’s carpet upcycling and recycling business which utilises stock that would otherwise have been sent to landfill, and Ping Logistics, a dedicated third-party logistics business, managing customers stock on a consigned basis.

Andy adds: “We’re a major player on the Bradford business scene and our new site and the investment in our facilities reflects just how serious we are about continuing this upward trajectory.

“We are a company that seamlessly blends traditional textile skills with the latest manufacturing technology, underpinned by leading edge IT solutions. We are constantly looking at new markets, processes and solutions, but none of this would be possible without our people. We are extremely proud of our staff who embody our core values and determination to delight our customers.”

Melrose Interiors has been trading for over 50 years. It now services some of the largest on-line and high street retail chains in the UK.
