Builder’s merchant opens new million-pound Morpeth branch

Morpeth Mayor Jack Gebhard officially opens the new Morpeth branch of James Burrell (L-R) Tony Hall, Mark Richardson, Jack Gebhard, Michael Fahey, Steve Richardson and Doug Reid

Leading regional builders’ merchant, James Burrell, has celebrated the opening of its latest branch in Morpeth, following a £1 million investment.

The site, on Coopies Lane Industrial Estate, was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by local mayor Jack Gebhard.

The new site has also seen the creation of 11 new job roles, employing local people across a range of positions including operations and customer service. The opening is the latest good news for the company, which celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2017 and achieved a turnover of £60m last year.

This latest development is the ninth branch to open across the North East and Yorkshire joining Blyth, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Bishop Auckland, Stockton, York and Ossett, continuing a proud history of serving the region.

The new branch is expected to draw in thousands of customers each year from Morpeth, Alnwick and the surrounding areas, serving a wide range of trades.

Kevin Dawson, Sales Manager at James Burrell, said: “We’re delighted to have opened our latest location in Morpeth, which represents a significant commitment to the region. We’ve been warmly welcomed by the local trade so far and we’re privileged to serve a wider Northumberland customer base through this new branch.

“Morpeth offers a full range of products and we’re sure that builders, joiners, gardeners, roofers and more will be impressed by our expansive range on-site – with most items available for same day collection or free next day delivery.”

The new 7,800m2 facility includes a brand-new trade counter for customer collections and sales, a substantial warehouse and yard. To celebrate this major milestone, James Burrell hosted an Opening Day on 5 September alongside a range of businesses and suppliers including Paslode, Velux and XL Joinery, Harley Davidson, Evans Cycles and Jennings Ford.

Kevin continued: “The Open Day was a great opportunity to meet our new Morpeth team, check out our full product range and, of course, sample our events. We look forward to hosting regular events at our new branch, offering our customers exceptional offers, supplier demos and more.”

Details about future events can be found at James Burrell’s newly revamped website, featuring vast product ranges, as well as career opportunities and the latest company news.
