Charity calls for Leeds businesses to help get homeless back into employment

A charity launched by West Yorkshire HR and employment law firm, Howarths People and Safety Management, is urging business people to find out more about how they can help get homeless and recently homeless people from Leeds back into employment.

The Howarth Foundation will host a seminar on 14th March at Elland Road stadium in Leeds to raise awareness of the true levels of homelessness across the city and educate local businesses on how they can support the charity’s Business Building Futures ‘Street2Feet’ programme.

The programme sees the charity work with more than 20 partner companies across Leeds and Kirklees to provide skills training, work experience and employment opportunities to individuals who have been identified as ready to re-enter full or part-time employment following homelessness.

In 2017, the charity received official backing from Leeds City Council and support from Leeds City Housing.

Guest speakers at the March event will include representatives from Change Grow Live, Leeds Housing Options, St Anne’s Resource Centre and St George’s Crypt.

A representative from Ringways Motor Group, who are currently a member of the Business Building Futures Programme, will also discuss the business benefits and intricacies of employing a previously homeless individual.

Andy Howarth, CEO at The Howarth Foundation, said:

“I would encourage business people and individuals to come along and find out how their support can help individuals who have overcome living on the streets and are ready to get themselves back on track and make a positive contribution to society.

““We already have a fantastic network of more than 20 local businesses on board, and with even more support, we can extend our reach to help more people who have experienced homelessness take that first step back into employment.”

The seminar will take place between 10am – 2pm on 14th March in the Peter Lorimer Suite at Elland Road stadium. To reserve a place, email [email protected] or call 01274 864999.
