West Yorkshire clothing brand Ushi has expanded its offering following a full refurbishment of its headquarters with the launch of an event space, as well as a unique coffee shop and café called CupUshi.

Based in Mirfield, the venue has already attracted a loyal customer base since its soft launch earlier this year; with many locals taking advantage of the space to work and socialise.

Offering a range of sweet and savoury treats, the business uses local, in season produce wherever possible – stocking local honey from The Yorkshire Bee Lady, and using and selling West Yorkshire-based coffee bean producer Dark Wood’s for its impressive selection of hot drinks.

The refurbishment of the original Ushi headquarters – as well as the opening of the event space and the café, marks a new era for the family business which was established in 2008 by husband and wife duo Neil and Jilly Kapusi.

The complete overhaul of the venue took place after the family purchased the building in 2018; with designer Jilly painstakingly utilising every scrap of waste from the building process to create a unique look.

To mark the success of CupUshi to date, the venue is hosting an official open day on May 23rd, during which new and existing customers are invited to attend to have a look around and sample the menu.

As of 28th May, the coffee shop is also extending its opening hours on weekdays to 7am – offering a range of coffees and takeaway food treats for those tackling an early morning commute.

Jilly Kapusi said: “Mirfield is where we started the business in 2008. It’s where we launched our clothing line, and it’s where our staff – our CupUshi family – live. It’s home.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone into the newly refurbished coffee shop – we’re hoping that people will come down and celebrate with us on the 23rd May. It’s free to attend, with drinks and nibbles available all day.

“We wanted to create a space that gave a sense of belonging to our neighbours. We’re excited for the community to come and enjoy what we have to offer, from people who want a quiet space to work or meet with customers, mums and dads with small babies, families looking to spend a little time together, and teenagers enjoying a milkshake or two.”

Earlier this month, the venue also announced the launch of an exclusive event room which has already proved popular with people celebrating a special get together – from baby showers to hen gatherings, pre-race day brunches and networking events.

Jilly said: “Our downstairs event room is a great space, and there’s nothing quite like it in the area.

“We know each event host will want to add a little personal twist to what they have in mind, but that’s pretty much our entire ethos, and we will definitely work hard to make that happen – whether that’s a special menu, or a bit of decoration and entertainment.”

CupUshi has a string of special events planned in the coming months, including a special brunch for Father’s Day. Customers are encouraged to call to arrange a booking.
