Harrogate-based energy supplier CNG and homelessness charity SASH are calling out to Harrogate businesses and volunteers to come forward for their 2019 charity sleepout, raising awareness of youth homelessness.
As part of CNG’s 25th year celebrations, the business is helping to organise the 2019 event which takes place on Friday 11th October at the CNG Stadium (Harrogate Town A.F.C) and is calling out to local businesses to sign up teams and volunteers to take part. Participants are required to spend the night at the stadium, using only sleeping bags, cardboard and plastic for protection. There will be guest speakers, a quiz, lots of tea and coffee, soup, snacks and breakfast in the morning.
Established in 1994, SASH has been preventing youth homelessness for 25 years. The team works across North and East Yorkshire supporting young people aged 16 to 25 at times of urgent need to help reduce the risk of a cycle of homelessness, unemployment and benefit dependence. SASH has built a network of volunteer hosts who dedicate time and open up their homes to help young people get back on their feet.
Ruth Fawcett, Fundraising Consultant at SASH said: “Not many people are aware of the huge levels of homelessness in Harrogate, but it’s our second busiest area for referrals throughout all of North and East Yorkshire. This event is designed to boost awareness, raise funds and hopefully help us remove the stigma so we can continue to attract more hosts for our young people.”
CNG MD Jacqui added: “SASH is an incredible cause and one of our nominated charities for our 25k challenge where we hope to raise funds to split between some amazing causes both locally and further afield. Team CNG always really enjoy the sleepout and it’s a great way to raise awareness of the work being done to help young people in crisis.”
