Credit Union receives Irish ministerial visit to mark St Patrick’s Day

Manchester Credit Union welcomed a visit from the Irish Minister of State at the Department of Finance as part of his week-long activities in the North West of England for St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Minister Sean Fleming is passionate about the work of credit unions and has governmental responsibilities for credit unions in Ireland as well as dealing with insurance and international financial services.

Chief executive of Manchester Credit Union, Christine Moore, was delighted to be able to give Minister Fleming a tour of their headquarters, along with Caroline Domanski from No.1 Copperpot Credit Union, and talk about the role the credit union plays in Manchester – supporting more than 30,000 members with low-cost savings and loans.

She said: “It was wonderful that Minister Fleming had time to drop in to talk about our shared passion for credit union work. Credit unions are a large and vibrant sector of the financial services industry in Ireland, so it was fantastic to collaborate, share our knowledge and give him an insight into the British credit union movement.”


Minister Fleming is also be visiting Leeds Credit Union as part of his St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

He added: “I very much enjoyed meeting members of the British Credit Union movement. It’s important we share our learnings and experience to build relationships and grow. My thanks to the Swoboda Research Centre for organising this visit, to Manchester Credit Union for hosting, and to No1 CopperPot Credit Union and ABCUL for participating.”
