Cumbrian coffee roasters pledge support to charity event

Visitors to a Keswick fell for a week during September will have the unique chance to savour freshly roasted coffee in an unusual location as part of a charity event.

Local speciality coffee roasters and ‘Cumbria’s Best Drink Producer 2018’, Carvetii have pledged to provide all of the coffee, tea, and hot chocolate for the week-long ‘Experience of a Lifetime’ charity fundraising event organised by Keswick Rotary Club. The event aims to raise vital funds for three fantastic charities – The Great North Air Ambulance, Calvert Trust and ShelterBox.

Experience of a Lifetime’ offers a limited number of guests a unique opportunity to dine, drink, sleep and be entertained under the stars beneath the summits of two of the area’s most stunning fells, Latrigg and Skiddaw.

Taking place over seven consecutive nights from September 7th to the 15th, up to 14 guests each night will indulge in an intimate gourmet fine dining supper – plus wine – prepared and served by one of seven top Cumbrian chefs including 2017 Masterchef contestant, Ryan Blackburn. Once fully satiated, everyone will retire under canvas before waking to the aroma of freshly brewed Carvetii coffee – roasted just a few miles away in Threlkeld – and a full Cumbrian breakfast as the sun rises.

Despite places being limited for the overnight experience, during the day walkers and passers-by will still be able to support the event by visiting the pop up ‘Fellside Café’. Carvetii-trained baristas and staff will be volunteering their time to make sure the hot drinks complement the quality of the stunning surroundings.

Gareth Kemble, co-owner of Carvetii said: “When we found out that this event was happening so close to our roastery, we knew that the coffee being served had to be ours. An Experience of a Lifetime doesn’t scream out instant coffee and plastic cups so we’ll be donating one of our espresso machines, grinder, proper cups, as well as extra manpower to help run the café. That’s the quality people expect nowadays. It also means that every single penny from the sale of the drinks will go directly to the people that matter – the charities.

“Its really ambitious to have an event of this scale on Latrigg so its hugely important for local businesses like us to do what we can to support it and raise as much as possible for some very worthwhile charities.”

Christine Sheldon, Rotary event organiser, said: “ It’s fantastic that we can provide “gourmet” coffees as part of the “Experience of a Lifetime”. Carvetii’s expertise and generosity are remarkable and we hope lots of walkers and visitors will come up to the site on the side of Latrigg to enjoy the views, the entertainment AND the coffees”.

The Fellside Café on the side of Latrigg will be open between 11am-4.30pm every day from September 7th-15th serving hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes. It will also host activities, cookery masterclasses and live entertainment each afternoon.
