Charitable organisations from across Darlington successfully recruited hundreds of volunteers at Darlington Cares’ third annual Volunteer Fair.
The event, which was held on February 7th at The Dolphin Centre, attracted hordes of members of the public and saw over 100 volunteers pledge to donate their spare time to help the community.
Over 65 organisations from across the region exhibited at the event, including the RSPCA, Clervaux Trust and Age UK North Yorkshire & Darlington, and showcased the variety of volunteering roles available.
The Volunteer Fair, which was sponsored by Darlington Borough Council, County Durham Community Foundation and One Darlington, was deemed a fantastic success by attendees and exhibitors.
Louise Graham, chair of Food For Thought Darlington, said: “It’s been a wonderful day. It was a great opportunity to meet interested members of the public who are keen to give something back to the community, and also to network with so many other organisations who are doing great things for Darlington.”
Speaking about the event, Darlington Cares’ Programme Officer Chelsea Johnson said: “We know just how much of a difference volunteering makes to both the organisations and the lives of the people in our community.
“We love running this event as it gives those who are interested in volunteering but might not be sure about the range of opportunities available, a chance to find out more. We are looking forward to continuing to host and grow the Volunteer Fair in coming years.”
