Ecommerce skills growing in value, says recruiter

The skills needed to manage ecommerce marketplaces are becoming increasingly valuable to businesses, says leading Lancashire based executive and management recruiters Walmsley Wilkinson.

The consultancy is seeing a spiral in the use of specialist expertise to help manage the challenges around electronic retailing – and have supported client needs to recruit into newly created roles such as Head of Marketplaces and Ecommerce Amazon Specialists.

Taryn Wilkinson, Director of Walmsley Wilkinson, said: “It was previously a given that in order to survive and thrive, traditional retailers needed to develop a strong ecommerce strategy but we have recently seen a rise in manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors needing skilled individuals who can meet the online selling challenges of working effectively and compliantly with ecommerce marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay.

“This area of recruitment is growing fast, has accelerated during the pandemic, and will become increasingly important as business becomes even more reliant on achieving sales through ecommerce.”

Taryn said the growth of roles in ecommerce demonstrates how many organisations have adapted to the changes and have identified the opportunity for business growth via more effective online selling and the supply chain. Companies are reacting to customer demands and the need to take their products to market visibly and quickly by partnering with the likes of Amazon, she said.

“There isn’t a large talent pool in this area currently so opportunities will open up for those who develop skills, knowledge and experience in the ever evolving online selling platforms,” she added.

Walmsley Wilkinson offers a professional partnership across all executive, management and specialist recruitment needs for many types of organisations in the private and public sector including private equity-owned businesses, large corporates and SMEs.

The company’s services extend across sectors including building technologies, advanced manufacturing and engineering, aerospace, health and social care, professional services and FMCG / distribution.
