The precision engineering team at EDM Zone celebrate a decade operating their northeast manufacturing business by creating something special to showcase what they can deliver – a 4in x 2in titanium Christmas candy cane.
The part depicts a festive scene as Santa flies above fern trees in a sleigh towed by reindeer – the level of accuracy is unrivaled and could only be achieved by the Wire EDM machine. The team, with over 30 years of engineering experience, pride themselves on delivering high precision engineered parts to a wide variety of industries across the globe.
Roger Wilson, Technical Engineering Manager at EDM Zone, said: ‘We absolutely thrive on a challenge and always look to push the boundaries on what we can achieve for the businesses we work with. Over the past ten years, Oil and gas has been at the forefront of the business, however we work within various sectors including renewable energy, hydraulics and pneumatics and textiles to name just a few.
‘The candy cane shows the level of skill that we offer here at EDM Zone. It was produced by the highly precise Wire EDM machine, no other method of manufacture could achieve this result. We have ten of these machines, having invested in a new machine every year to meet capacity and ensure we stand out from the competition. We are one of only a small handful of precision engineering suppliers in the UK that can produce this type of accuracy and precision. We really are the best at what we do – we can successfully meet every brief and our service is second to none.’
EDM Zone has established itself as an Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) specialist that offers the full manufacturing process under one roof. This integrated service gives their clients the reassurance of meeting their deadlines while retaining the highest of quality in producing high precision parts.
The business has grown substantially over ten years, continually investing in equipment in response to clients needs and also investing in their workforce. Of the 15 staff, half joined the team as part of the apprentice scheme.
Roger added: ‘We have won the Made in the North East Manufacturing Apprenticeship Training Scheme Award for the past two years and we were are shortlisted for this year’s regional award for the manufacturing apprenticeship scheme and won last year’s regional apprenticeship award. We are very proud of these accolades and the team we have built here.’
The business has enjoyed year on year grown since it started trading a decade ago and has great ambitions for the future.
‘We will continue to invest in our people and the operation, making sure we stay one step ahead of what our clients need. Our ambition is to diversify into delivering high precision parts to the aerospace and pharmaceutical industries and we have the operation ready to meet those briefs. There are no limits to what we can produce for clients, in terms of execution and our capacity.’
