Energy Staff Show Their Love For Cancer Charity

EDF Energy staff show their support for Breast Cancer Now by continuing to raise important funds for the charity

The team at EDF Energy in Sunderland has raised over £1,000 for Breast Cancer Now, the company’s national charity partner.

In a ‘Love is All Around’ Fundraiser, which took place on Valentine’s Day, customer service staff enjoyed a fun filled day of activities that were geared towards raising awareness of breast cancer.

The total amount raised – £1,014 – will be used to help fund vital research to stop men and women dying from breast cancer.

Kevin Gatens, Head of Customer Service in the North East, said: “It was a site wide event and the team made a great effort to raise as much as possible throughout the day. This included taking part in a ‘dress down day’ where staff dressed down in exchange for a small donation. It was a wonderful team effort and we are delighted to raise over £1,000 during just one working day.”

Staff also organised a raffle and tombola and had several Valentine related gifts for sale, of which all proceeds were donated to Breast Cancer Now.

The company-wide partnership with Breast Cancer Now began in October 2016, and EDF Energy has pledged to raise a total of £300,000 from employee fundraising over the course of the three-year partnership. The company has exceeded this target with the current total standing at £375,679. £23,488 of this has been raised specifically by staff at EDF Energy’s Doxford base.

Lizzie Israeli, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at Breast Cancer Now, said: “We are truly humbled with EDF Energy’s efforts in raising awareness and funds to help us towards our goal that by 2050, anyone who develops breast cancer will live, and live well. It’s great to see how creative they are in arranging engaging fundraisers that receive a great response and raise vital funds for the charity. Thanks to the team in Doxford Park for all their efforts in this particular fundraising event – well done!”
