Exhibition success prompts plans for cyber safety workshop

Autumn Business IT Showcase

The success of a recent exhibition featuring IT security at York Railway Museum has prompted the hosts, Boston Spa-based Deans Computer Services (DCS), to launch a cyber safety workshop early next year.

Featuring 21 exhibitors and guest presentations by the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit, last week’s Autumn Showcase event was exceptionally well attended by companies seeking advice on protection against increasing and evolving online threats. Many expressed interest in a proposed workshop and in February DCS will be providing a dedicated session with its team of in-house experts as well as input from the Police Cybercrime Unit and ESET, specialists in anti-virus and data encryption services.

DCS managing director, Patrick Clayton, said: “Our Autumn showcase provided insight on how software can be utilised to filter and proactively stop the latest network, web, email and application threats. It was the latest in a series of exhibitions which DCS are hosting across various regional locations and was our first event at York Railway Museum, which is a terrific venue. The turnout was one of our highest to date and I think this reflects the growing importance of cyber security.”

“A global surge in the frequency and sophistication of cybercrime has made protection a major priority for many companies, especially SMEs who don’t have the in-house expertise necessary to safeguard their business. They really value face-to-face discussion with security specialists and expert advice on staying safe. That’s why we are introducing a workshop. It will be free to attend and we hope to confirm an official date and venue in the New Year. In the meantime businesses are invited to contact our head office to register their interest.”

DCS delivers leading-edge and reliable software solutions to small and medium sized businesses. Formed in 1982, the company provides systems consultancy and integration, networking installations, equipment maintenance and repairs, software installation with training and support, bespoke programming, internet e-mail/e-commerce solutions and business forms.
