Expanding sports tech firm signs major deal with Manchester-based govering body for Basketball

XPS customer, Leicester Riders

Following its recent UK expansion, Icelandic sports tech firm XPS Network has reported exponential growth across the UK sporting sector and has confirmed a major deal with the Manchester-based sports governing body, Basketball England, along with the professional sporting teams Reading Rockets and Stevenage FC.

XPS Network describes itself as a “one-stop-shop for sports clubs, organisations and academies” with over 2,000 clubs and teams worldwide now using the platform.

With a particular focus on the basketball space, XPS Network has onboarded two of the top three teams in the UK and has recently signed a major deal with Basketball England. Headquartered in Manchester, Basketball England is the official governing body for national Basketball and the British Basketball League, the only professional league in the country.

In a deal worth £50,000, Basketball England will roll out XPS Network services across the country’s professional basketball league.

“We are delighted to be working with Basketball England, the official governing body for English Basketball and the British Basketball League. As Basketball England will be rolling XPS out across clubs and leagues across the country, we are confident the use of XPS will help them achieve their aim of engaging 1 million people in basketball in the UK”, says Agust Thorkelsson, CEO & Co-founder of XPS Network.

The most recent basketball team to begin using XPS Network is the Division 1 club, Reading Rockets, one of the UK’s most successful basketball teams.

“Reading Rockets are very happy to be using XPS as part of our coaching and community programs. Since 1998, we have provided a way for children (from the age of 4) to play basketball, and engage in healthy lifestyle development”, says Dan Pearson, Reading Rockets Men’s Head Coach and Academy Director.

“Reading Rockets runs 20 community programs, oversees and organises 19 teams — from junior basketball camps to senior professional teams — and delivers over 120 hours of coaching every week to over 700 children and adults. Now we are deploying XPS, it will make a big positive difference to the way teams and coaching is organised, and ultimately, player performance.”

The firm is in similar talks with the English College Football Association as it looks to expand its reach in the professional and amateur football sector.

XPS Network has also put pen to paper with EFL League Two football club, Stevenage FC, in recent weeks and following the landmark deal between Sky, BBC and the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, the company also aims to expand its client base in Women’s Football.

The firm seeks to establish deals with a number of clubs in the league, adding to its clients that already includes West Ham United Women’s team.

Tom Malins, Country Manager for the UK & Ireland at XPS Network, continues: “With these recent new clients coming on-board, it’s a clear sign that XPS is the ideal solution in the UK for a wide range of sports teams, clubs and associations at every level.”

“We are making it easier for coaches, whether they are coaching a children’s team or at a professional level. XPS Network is busy building on its success around the world, with more teams, leagues and associations than ever talking to us on a daily basis about deploying XPS to improve everything from organisation to communication and player performance.”
