A family-run North Yorkshire company has been granted the exclusive rights to distribute nationally accredited compost made from the garden waste of householders in the county.
Yorganics has entered into an agreement with Harrogate-based Harper Bagged Products to distribute its highly-acclaimed compost to retailers.
It follows increased demand for the compost, which only started being produced a few years ago.
Yorganics takes the garden waste recycled by people living in North Yorkshire and the City of York and transforms it into a peat-free compost which meets the PAS100 quality standard applied by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
This year, it is estimated that up to a half a million bags of compost will be produced for the retail sector. In addition, over 7,000 tonnes of loose (un-bagged) compost will also be distributed across the northern region.
Yorganics’ Field Sales Executive Sam Wright said: “Demand for Yorganics has increased year on year and in order to keep up with demand we needed to find a company capable of bagging and distributing substantial quantities of our compost.
“We were particularly keen to work with a local company, reflecting the fact that our compost is locally sourced and produced, so we are delighted to have entered into an exclusive agreement with Harper Bagged Products.
“They are a well-known and respected company with a long history and working in partnership we are looking forward to increasing the supply of Yorganics to the retail sector during 2019 and beyond.”

It takes around three months to turn people’s garden waste into Yorganics, which is also on sale to the public at household waste recycling centres across North Yorkshire and the City of York.
