Fast-growing Yorkshire design house hosts working differently event

LightStart

A fast-growing Leeds-based digital design house is hosting a working differently event, inspired by the modernisation of the typical working week.

LightStart, founded in 2016 by Simon Edwards and Dan Akers, is throwing a working differently event to open discussion about businesses’ adopting flexible working hours. The event will take place on Thursday 24th September at Sedulo’s St. Pauls’ House office space in Leeds city centre from 6-8pm.

Based in Platform, LightStart works with businesses for the duration of the digital product lifecycle, from idea to launch, providing services including analysis, business strategy, focus groups, branding and development.

Having recently introduced its flexible working policy, ‘work anytime’, the event will see the LightStart team interviewing representatives from different businesses who also don’t conform to the traditional nine-to-five day.

Various speakers will be presenting at the event, including Simon McCaskill from Google Masterclasses and Google Digital Garage, followed by a question and answer session. There will be informal networking opportunities, as well as food and drink, the event will finish at an after-party at Dirty Martini.

Financial consultancy Sedulo’s venue boasts a variety of quirky boardrooms which are fittingly named and designed after inspirational entrepreneurs, including the Fred Perry suite, featuring table tennis and astro-turf, and the John Cadburys suite, stocked with purple fittings and Cadbury’s chocolate.

Commenting on the event, LightStart co-founder, Dan Akers said:

“Given that we have recently adopted our own flexible hours policy, we are keen to hear how other businesses go about implementing their own models and if, in practice, it has a positive effect on work life balance and boosting team morale.

“We’re looking forward to an evening of inspirational and insightful speakers, and are thrilled to be hosting the event at Sedulo’s offices, a really unique venue unlike anywhere else in the city.”

Recently celebrating its second birthday, LightStart has gained a reputation for hosting more than 50 free events for the Leeds business community each year.
