Four senior promotions at Shulmans

Leeds-based top 200 law firm, Shulmans LLP, has announced four associate promotions as part of its career development scheme, ‘Forward with Shulmans’ (FwS).

FwS is unusual as it is open to all members of the firm, not just lawyers or senior managers. It was designed to provide all employees with a clear path to becoming an associate or partner. Mel Bulmer and Kirsteen McFadzean have been promoted in the Shulmans Business Support team; Nicky Morgan has been promoted in the Plot Sales team; and Lindsey Hodges has been promoted within the firm’s QCAS division, a leading provider of conveyancing services.

Morgan started her career with Shulmans 25 years ago as an office junior and is now Head of Plot Sales, leading one of the largest and most experienced specialist operations in the country. She manages the relationships with some of Shulmans’ largest clients, including UK top 20 housebuilders and developers. Her reputation within the industry has enabled the team to win a plethora of new work in recent years.

As Head of Business Development (BD), McFadzean leads the firm’s BD strategy and advises on engagement with both new and existing clients, ensuring that relationships are managed in a way that adds maximum value. She has created a team that manages a comprehensive programme of marketing activities which helps to position the firm in an increasingly competitive market place.

Hodges is a qualified licensed conveyancer and has a wealth of experience in residential conveyancing. As Quality and Technical Manager in the firm’s QCAS division, she is involved in managing some of the largest client and referrer relationships at the firm. Her work includes providing supervision and technical support to conveyancing teams as well as ensuring a high level of service and efficiency.

Since joining the firm in 2015, Bulmer, a qualified lawyer, has taken a leading role in developing business excellence and ensuring Shulmans’ regulatory obligations are satisfied. Her role is to identify areas where more efficient working practices can be introduced and then work with the appropriate teams to make the necessary changes. She has also worked to maximise the effectiveness of communications, through processes, systems and technology, including a centralised customer due diligence function and the implementation of GDPR requirements.

Rosemary Edwards, Partner and Chair of the Forward with Shulmans panel said: “We are delighted to announce these four promotions, all of which are well deserved. It is particularly pleasing to see the promotion of colleagues from a range of disciplines from across the firm. Each of these candidates has developed their career via a different route and this demonstrates how flexible our FwS scheme can be. All four of them have spent time nurturing and developing colleagues and passing on the knowledge and experience which they themselves have acquired.

“The success of Shulmans is testament to the strength of our people, and we appreciate the importance of developing individuals and rewarding the outstanding performance of the team. We hope that these recent achievements will inspire other colleagues to progress their own careers with Shulmans.”
