Fundraising success for Bolton’s ‘comical heroes’

Staff at business broker and finance firm, Hilton Smythe Group, are celebrating after being recognised by Bolton Lads and Girls Club for their fundraising throughout the past year.

The event, which celebrated the local businesses that had supported the charity during 2018, also challenged attendees to a ‘Are you smarter than a ten year old?’ game, where the Hilton Smythe team came second to local law firm KBL Solicitors.

The team took home two awards on the night. Aaron Roberts, Operations Manager at Hilton Smythe Businesses Sales, won the Hero award, and Hilton Smythe won the Most Comical award.

Hilton Smythe is a silver corporate patron of Bolton Lads and Girls Club, and in addition to the money it pledged as part of its patronage, it raised an additional £2200 for the charity.

It raised the money via a number of initiatives throughout the year, including a sponsored beard shave, gin Friday, Bel’s beauty salon, where people paid to have facials and their make-up done, bingo, and internal staff incentives.

Craig Graham, Managing Director of Hilton Smythe Group, said: “Bolton Lads and Girls Club is a fantastic organisation, and the work it does is essential to the Bolton community. We were delighted to be part of the recent awards night, and to have raised so much for the charity last year. We hope to be able to do even more for Bolton Lads and Girls Club to help support them over the next 12 months.

“We were especially pleased that Aaron Roberts was recognised with the Hero award, after raising money through sponsorship and having his beloved beard shaved off. We are still trying to work out whether the Most Comical award is a compliment or not. We think it is!”

Karen Edwards OBE, Chief Executive of the Bolton Lads and Girls Club, said: “We were delighted that so many of our supporters came for the awards night and the ‘Are you smarter than a ten year old?’ game. It makes a huge difference to the charity to receive support from local businesses.

“Bolton Lads and Girls Club provides a valuable service to young people in the region, teaching them essential skills and providing them with a safe and fun environment to spend time in outside of school. We couldn’t provide this without the support of businesses like Hilton Smythe Group.”
