Gok Wan teams up with 3 Leeds Event Companies this weekend to host virtual charity rave, Isolation Nation

DJ, fashion icon and bona-fide national treasure Gok Wan is bringing his hugely popular kitchen rave to Leeds for a show-stopping charity event. Isolation Nation presents 4 Corners of House will take place on Saturday 22nd August at 7pm and feature house sets from some of the UK’s brightest DJ talent, including Gok himself.

Born during lockdown with the aim of lifting the nations spirits, Isolation Nation quickly picked up a loyal following, with streaming figures topping 1m in recent weeks. Realising he was onto something big, Gok decided to take Isolation Nation to the next level and set about planning the UK’s biggest virtual rave.

The result is Isolation Nation presents 4 Corners of House, an epic celebration of the dance industry’s most enduring genre.

Having played some of his favourite DJ gigs in Leeds, Gok couldn’t think of a better city to stage his first large scale virtual Isolation Nation event. With three of Yorkshire’s most prolific events companies soon onboard, the party began to take shape.

Feeding Britain

All proceeds raised by the event will go to Feeding Britain. The charity was created during the pandemic to help feed low income families and works closely with food banks and local communities. Just £10 can help provide 30 meals, so every penny donated really counts.

Gok Wan first shot to fame back in 2006 when Channel 4 asked him to present his own TV show, How to Look Good Naked, which spanned seven series. He has also fronted several cookery shows, works as a fashion consultant, and received an MBE for his services to fashion and social awareness.

Gok had this to say about his forthcoming event:

‘’When the nation went into lockdown, I knew I had to remain creative to avoid going stir crazy. Isolation Nation began as a bit of fun but has rapidly snowballed into a brand of its own with an amazing online community.’’

‘’I’ve played numerous events in Leeds and the people are incredibly warm and really know how to party. Feeding Britain are by far one of the best things to come out of 2020 and we really need to raise as much money for them as possible. So, my advice to you for Saturday 22nd August would be to get our favourite drinks on ice, tune in, dance, have fun and most importantly, dig deep. It’s going to be the party to end all parties!’’

Jaw-dropping visuals

Event Prop Hire will be providing their incredible bespoke themed props and immersive backdrops for Isolation Nation, giving the party a production scale worthy of prime-time TV. As Europe’s biggest prop and furniture hire business, the Yorkshire based outfit have a stellar reputation for creating jaw-dropping visuals.

AV Matrix, one of the north’s most reputable AV and production companies, will facilitate the live streaming and provide DJ equipment and giant LED screens to bring the event to life. Also based in Wetherby, the brand has been responsible for creating large corporate events and production for the likes of Kylie, Take That and Olly Murs.

Leeds’ most reputable leisure PR and events company Pink Gorilla Hairy Lemon assisting with the event management and PR. With an impressive portfolio of clients including Harvey Nichols, Top Shop and Roxy Leisure, they have organised some of the most legendary events and parties in the north of England.

Creative edge

Due to the recent demise of live events post-COVID, the three event companies have joined forces and are now offering companies and private individuals the opportunity to stream live themed events and awards ceremonies straight into their front rooms and corporate offices.

Deborah De Vittoris, Co-Founder and Director of Pink Gorilla Hairy Lemon said:
“Like many industries, the impact of COVID has been brutal to those working in events. Our whole business is about bringing people together and the reality is that is not going to happen any time soon. In response to that, we looked to diversify our businesses by offering virtual events with a creative edge and we’re over the moon to be working with Gok.’’

‘’Not only is it helping a great cause while providing entertainment, but it also showcases what can be achieved virtually – which goes way beyond your average Zoom call! It’s also really rewarding to know that a high-profile London based celebrity is giving small businesses up North an amazing opportunity to showcase their talents.”

4 Corners of House

The event will take place from Event Prop Hire’s creative studio in Leeds and feature four DJ stations for each of the artists to perform. All four DJ acts will be bringing their own unique flavour to the party and viewers can expect a mix of classic party bangers funky house, disco, and commercial house.

Leeds very own Angel Lee will be representing the ladies and showing the nation why she is one of the UK’s hottest DJ talents. Speaking of the event, Angel Lee said:
‘’The pandemic has been devastating for DJ’s and artists; however, it has also allowed myself and other performers to grow in other ways. Gok has always been an inspiration to me and his weekly kitchen discos have really kept my spirits up. It’s an honour that he chose Leeds to launch this amazing event and I cannot wait to play alongside him, Kudo & Fish and The Roscoe Brothers.’’

Isolation Nation kicks off from 7pm on Saturday 22nd August and will stream live via Select Radio and all four DJ acts Facebook pages.
