Housebuilder gives new life to charity’s first aid point

Hartlepool Ambulance Charity has received a £1,500 donation from local housebuilder David Wilson Homes North East, which will be put towards providing first aid support at community events.

The donation to the club, which came from nearby David Wilson Homes’ Elwick Gardens development, will be used to create a high quality shelter that will enable the charity to carry out first aid at year-round community events. Inside the shelter, the charity will also use part of the space as a fundraising point so any attendees or visitors can support its ongoing work.

As part of its work in the local area, Hartlepool Ambulance Charity trains and equips volunteer first aiders, medics and responders that will attend community events and patrol public areas as well as offering first aid training to the local community. Prior to the donation, the charity was carrying out first aid under a gazebo but needed extra funds to upgrade the space and have a more visible presence at future events.

The donation comes as part of the Barratt Developments’ Community Fund initiative, which was established by the housebuilder to support the local communities in which it builds, and reach those most in need living close to its developments. Each month, Barratt Development donates up to £1,500 to a different registered charity as part of the initiative, with this month attributed to Hartlepool Ambulance Charity.

Speaking on the donation, Jason Anderson, Trustee & Emergency Care Assistant at Hartlepool Ambulance Charity said: “We’re extremely grateful for the donation from David Wilson Homes North East. The work we do is vital to keeping our community safe and healthy, so being able to offer first aid services in a space that’s easily accessible and shielded from the elements is of the utmost importance. This generosity now means that we can give a roof over the heads of the communities we serve, and continue our work.”

Ashlea Wright, Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes’ Elwick Gardens development, commented: “It’s fantastic to be supporting charities that provide such key work in the local area. In order for any type of community event to be safe for attendees, a dedicated first aid service is vital, and the work that Hartlepool Ambulance Charity do to ensure this deserves to be recognised. We’re delighted that our donation will improve the work of the volunteers and also benefit the wider community,”

Elwick Gardens offers a collection of detached four and five bedroom homes, situated within the desirable area of Elwick, Hartlepool. The development has easy access to the coast and scenic nature trails, whilst remaining within a short distance of local amenities at the nearby town center.
