Local five star housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, has collaborated with Throckley Primary School, near to its new upcoming Meadow Hill development, by hosting a careers day to highlight the various career opportunities that are available within the construction industry.
Employees from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes presented 85 students from Year 5 and Year 6 with the opportunity to learn about sales, construction, technical and Health & Safety through engaging talks, educational videos and interactive activities.
The students also took part in a Q&A session with Barratt Developments’ Sales Manager, Natalie Donnelly; Contracts Manager, Darren Cuming; and Technical Coordinator, Alex Blyth, where they were able to ask questions to the leading housebuilder’s industry experts regarding careers in construction.
Lee Comstock, School Business Manager at Throckley Primary School, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes into our school for an educational careers day with the students. We are always looking for ways in which we can raise the aspirations of our children and learn about the different careers available, and this has provided them with plenty of inspiration. It was fantastic to see the children really engage with the session, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the housebuilder as the new development progresses.”
The careers day formed part of Barratt Developments’ ongoing pledge to support the communities in which it builds. As well as forging partnerships with local schools and community groups, the housebuilder is also committed to donating £1,000 to a charitable cause each month through its Community Fund initiative.
Natalie Donnelly, Sales Manager at Barratt Developments’ nearby Meadow Hill development, commented: “We were really pleased with this fantastic opportunity to partner with Throckley Primary school and raise awareness of the many career possibilities that are available with Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. As a leading housebuilder in the area, we’re keen to work closely with the local schools and organisations, and we hope that the students found it beneficial and enjoyed the careers day!”
Construction of the Barratt Homes’ nearby Meadow Hill development in Throckley is expected to commence later this year and will see over 300 stylish three and four bedroom homes made available to a variety of potential buyers.
