Housebuilder supports local families with £1,000 donation to York charity

Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, has donated £1,000 to an important charity in York that supports families’ individual needs through volunteered home-visiting hours.

The chosen cause, Home-Start York, nominated for the donation by Barratt Developments PA to Construction Director, Jo Crawford, is an independent voluntary organisation that offers services to York families who have at least one child under the age of six. The charity aims to recruit, train and supervise volunteers to visit families in the home to offer informal, friendly, and confidential support. In order to help give children the best possible start in life, Home-Start supports parents as they grow in confidence to strengthen their relationships with their children and to widen their links with the local community.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Community Fund initiative sees the housebuilder support the communities in which it builds by donating £1,000 of funding to an important local charity each month.

With the help of the Community Fund donation, Home-Start York will aim to re-establish the previously offered small supportive community groups for anxious and isolated parents, as they are currently being held virtually, and would like to bring these back into the community pending government restrictions.

Jo Crawford, PA to Construction Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East commented: “Home-Start York does a truly fantastic job in supporting families in our local community, which is why I nominated them as part of our Community Fund initiative. We hope that our Community Fund donation will help to enhance the important work that the charity does.”

Maria O’Keeffe, Scheme Manager at Home-Start, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen for the very kind donation from Barratt Developments Yorkshire East. The funds will really make a difference to the families we support in York.”
