INDUSTRO Solutions is supporting recycling activity at Redcar Bulk Terminal with the fabrication and delivery of a 10-tonne dockside materials collection skip.

The steel skip, which was designed and fabricated at INDUSTRO’s facility in Middlesbrough, will help transfer waste metals onto docked vessels for shipping to recycling facilities.

Measuring six metres in length and five metres wide, the skip has the capacity to hold approximately 30 tonnes of scrap metal at any one time. It is filled by tipper trucks working on the site and lifted by a rail mounted gantry crane for the materials to be loaded onto the vessels.

Delivered by INDUSTRO’s team of experienced engineers, the skip took six weeks to design, fabricate and commission. It was transported to Redcar Bulk Terminal via road in two sections before being welded together on site and undergoing a week of testing prior to being brought into service.

The skip was officially commissioned on a visit to Redcar Bulk Terminal by Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen.

The project will improve operational efficiencies and increase the amount of recycled materials collected at Redcar Bulk Terminal, which is a deep-water marine terminal located on the south bank of the River Tees.

It features a 320-metre long quay, which is part of a 130-hectare facility that provides short and long-term storage for a variety of bulk cargoes as well as the assembly and disassembly of large projects for sectors such as offshore wind.

This is the latest project completed by INDUSTRO Solutions, which was founded three years’ ago by directors John Betts and Joanne Bell.

Employing 30 people, and with plans to double its workforce by the end of 2020, INDUSTRO Solutions provides a range of specialist services including design engineering, steel fabrication, installation and asset management.

Having recently moved to new 7,000 sq ft facility, the company has the capacity to deliver larger-scale fabrications and has also delivered projects such as a process skid for Qatar and the fabrication and installation of a renewable process plant on Teesside.

John Betts, Managing Director of INDUSTRO Solutions, said: “Delivering this project in a short time scale is testament to our skilled workforce, which has a wealth of experience that has been instrumental in the rapid growth of the business. We are extremely proud to work with Redcar Bulk Terminal, which is an iconic Teesside business that plays an important role in the industrial economy of the region.”

Joanne Bell, Director of INDUSTRO Solutions, said: “We are really pleased to support Redcar Bulk Terminal’s recycling commitment with the delivery of this 10-tonne skip. It will enable more efficient collection and loading of waste materials that can subsequently be brought back into use.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “It is great to see INDUSTRO Solutions thriving and find out more about their exciting plans for the future, including the creation of more jobs and apprentices in the coming months, and how the project will improve operational efficiencies at Redcar Bulk Terminal.

“Since I was elected, I have always prioritised supporting projects that create investment, jobs and growth, and this does exactly that. It also great to see local companies working closely together, building a strong economy for the region.”

Garry O’Malley, Director Redcar Bulk Terminal Limited, said “We have been highly impressed in the quality of the work carried out by INDUSTRO Solutions and the tight delivery schedule they had to meet. This piece of equipment will increase the productivity levels on large export shipments of scrap”.
