Inspiring speakers unveiled for women’s leaders conference

Britain’s youngest woman to climb Everest at the time and the former Chief Crown Prosecutor for the North West will be addressing senior business women at a conference ahead of International Women’s Day.

At the age of 25, Tori James was the first Welsh woman to climb Everest and starred in a BBC documentary about her expedition called ‘On Top of the World’. Nazir Afzal OBE will also be addressing the Women Leaders Association conference on March 2nd about his 24-year career prosecuting some of the most high profile cases in the country.

Nazir campaigned tirelessly on a range of issues including violence against women and girls, child sexual abuse and honour based violence.

With the theme ‘Be Bold, Be You, Be Unstoppable’, the one day event in Chester will bring together some of the brightest minds in women’s leadership, in and beyond the corporate landscape.

The conference, held at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel, is set to attract more than 100 senior business leaders from across the North West and beyond. Leading building and civil engineering contractor Sir Robert McAlpine is headline sponsor of the event with leading home care company Home Instead Senior Care sponsors of the drinks reception.

Speaking about the event, Tori said: “It took courage to climb Everest and we need more women to be brave, courageous and have greater confidence to achieve what’s possible. I look forward to sharing my experiences and inspiring women business leaders to help them realise that they can achieve their ambitions.”

Founder of the Women Leaders Association, Sandra Green said: “We are hugely looking forward to welcoming women leaders to our fourth annual conference and have a truly inspiring line up of speakers. Too often, women hold themselves back through a lack of belief and don’t realise their full career potential. The day has a key focus on inspiring women to have the confidence to ask for what they want – and get it.”

One of the key issues to be discussed at the event is gender pay gap, which still stands at 18 per cent and widens even further after women have children. Senior business women will also offer lively insights discussing motherhood, the entitlement generation, passion & purpose from their own careers and life experience.

Other speakers include Hilary Browning and Sally Anne Anderson of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. They will be sharing their insights into team work and how the Orchestra are reaching out to give back to those disadvantaged in the community.
