John Howe & Co has been appointed as legal advisors for local barber shop, Lowtown by Dalton & Co after a relationship forged over the love of heavy metal music.

Bob Howe, a conveyancer at the Pudsey law firm, met owner Nathan Dalton, who specialises in looking after the unique hairstyles sported by heavy metal aficionados, on the music circuit when playing with his band On Hollow Ground.

The firm has supported the start-up with all its legal matters including leases, business disputes and advisory work.

Lowtown by Dalton & Co was founded by 25-year-old Nathan in October 2020 after working in the industry for two years. Nathan wanted to create a barber shop that promotes positive mental health and leaves clients feeling happier when they leave.

Nathan said: “I have been in the hairdressing industry for two years and following the first lockdown, I decided to make the leap and set up my own business.

“From my work experience and being a consumer, I found that barber shops are a place where clients come to relax and offload. I am a huge advocate of positive mental health and I found that having a natter with my barber for an hour or so helped me to feel a sense of relief when I left the chair. I wanted to recreate this in my own shop and make clients feel they are in a safe place to escape the stresses of life for a short time.

“The help I have received from John Howe & Co during the setting up of the business and afterwards has been second to none. For a business novice like me it is important to have people you can trust advising you.

”I love their individuality, after all not too many people have heavy metal music in common with their solicitors!”

John Howe, director at John Howe & Co, said: “We were delighted to offer our assistance to Nathan throughout all stages of setting up his business. He is an ambitious young man and a great friend of the firm, and we’re looking forward to developing our relationship further. Sadly, I don’t have a lot of need for his scissors anymore, but Bob certainly recommends Nathan’s skills and his modern take on barbering.”
