Local young adults attend Sunderland based award-winning sports and education facility, the Beacon of Light, to find out more about the variety of careers available at leading housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East.

Continuing to support the futures of the younger generation, Barratt Developments North East hosted a careers session at the Beacon of Light last week, where over 20 young people aged 17-20 attended to find out more about Barratt careers.

Attendees were given the opportunity to speak to Barratt staff members one on one, to find out more about their roles and what their day-to-day duties look like. Uncovering the career paths available at Barratt Developments, the session was designed to give young people of the area the chance to find out more about the wide range of roles available at Barratt, with the aim to increase awareness and aspirations of the learners involved.

The activity was also designed to encourage young people to feel more comfortable in open conversations with potential employers, in preparation for them starting the next steps in their journey into further education or employment.

Scott Taylor, Assistant Head of Skills at the Foundation of Light, said: “The young adults that attended the careers session with Barratt really benefited from talking to each of the staff members and found it extremely useful to find out what career paths are available. It’s been great to work with Barratt and have them attend the Beacon of Light on several occasions and we look forward to welcoming them again in the near future as part of our ongoing partnership.”

As part of Barratt’s ongoing commitment to the careers of young people, they have a continued partnership with the Foundation of Light where they have been working with young people and schools across the region to help with early career development.

Carl Sobolewski, Managing Director of Barratt Developments North East, said: “We’re thrilled to have an ongoing partnership with the Foundation of Light and speak to young people of the area about Barratt careers. We’re extremely invested in career development so being able to speak to young adults about the careers and apprenticeships we have available is fantastic.”

In addition to their ongoing partnership with the Foundation of Light, Barratt Developments North East are looking to recruit 7 apprentices this year across a range of roles, including Bricklaying, Carpentry/Joinery, and Technical.
