Leading play solutions provider partners with UK prison and shopping centre

A leading Yorkshire-based children’s play solutions provider has created two new bespoke installations, one in a prison and one for a shopping centre.

SLKids, a division of Leeds-based Sound Leisure, has installed play areas for public houses for the past decade since opening. The firm has expanded its offering to other sectors and has now successfully undertaken installations for a prison and a shopping centre.

Completing the projects earlier this year, SLKids partnered with HMP / YOI Bronzefield, Surrey, and Northamptonshire’s Swansgate shopping centre to create the areas designed to bring families closer together.

With a wealth of experience of creating bespoke, innovative play areas, SLKids design and install areas that are engaging, fun and durable, and, most importantly, encourages interaction between parents and their children.

Driscilla Clark, Prison Officer at HMP/ YOI Bronzefield commented:

“The play area has proven to be virtuous for the children and is used daily. Some residents have been given the opportunity to sit in the area with their children, which has been well received by all.”

The HMP / YOI Bronzefield play area is split into several themes across it’s 42m², including an alien landscape, a roadway and general playground with a hopscotch. It features a number of physical play options, as well as wall mounted activities such as interactive touchscreen systems and wooden play modules.

Swansgate is one of the largest shopping centre in Northamptonshire. Built in the early 1970s, the playcenter was formally built internally. Recognising the need to hire a professional company to create a purpose-built play area, Swansgate appointed SLKids to create a more family-friendly area.

SLKids designed a bespoke play area for the children which provides accompanying adults with more accessibility to be with them. Benches have been provided in the middle which face either way and encourages adults into the area too.

Marketing coordinator for Swansgate, Joanna Chapman said:

“The new play area has been a huge hit with families visiting us. There is always somebody in there and barriers between adults and children have been reduced making it easier for them to remain involved with their children who enjoy the space.”

Based in Leeds, SLKids creates interactive and engaging children’s play solutions for clients across a range of sectors including hospitals, shopping centres and department stores around the UK. Alongside manufacturing products from its Leeds headquarters, SLKids is the sole authorised UK distributor for its primary partner, Instore Kids Corners of Holland.

Commenting on the collaboration, Louise Laskey, National Sales Manager at SLKids Commercial Play Products (Sound Leisure Ltd) said:

“Having discussed the individual requirements of both customers, we have been able to create two wonderful children’s distraction areas. We are delighted to hear the positive feedback and that the areas are being utilised on a daily basis.

“Our main aim with these projects was to create a space which would engage the children whilst encouraging parents to get involved in their play. Removing all barriers between the adult and child, we created an interactive, open plan space for all to enjoy and its great to hear such positive feedback.”
