Leeds manufacturer success with latest acquisition

Leeds-based manufacturer and distributor, PPB Ltd has announced the acquisition of N E Plastics Ltd, supported by leading Yorkshire law firm, Shulmans LLP.

The combining of the two companies will take the group turnover to over £30 million and support its existing paper-based products business, industrial plastics unit and Westland digital display portfolio.

The purchase will introduce both NE Plastics and PPB’s customers to new products, services and further business opportunities in the South of England. Both companies have expertise in fabrication, cutting and extensive finishing processes of plastics and boards and will be a natural fit for building upon the success of its existing Thurrock operation.

The acquisition comes a year after PPB moved to a specifically converted warehouse and office premises at Cross Green in the North East of Leeds, including the relocation of its in-house state of the art sheeting and re-rewinding equipment. The move in March 2017, which was also supported by Shulmans LLP, increased its capabilities and storage to over 60,000 square feet of warehouse space and represented a total investment of £3.75million.

Richard Proctor, Director of PPB Ltd said: “We are delighted to welcome NE Plastics to the PPB family. NE Plastics is a great business with a reputation for good service and honest dealings. This acquisition will allow customers to benefit from a wider choice of products and services, including state of the art conversion facilities. Stock levels and servicing will be enhanced by our national distribution network serviced by a new fleet of vehicles. Customers can be assured that it is business as usual, but with the ongoing security of dealing with a larger scale business that is investing in this growing sector.”

Marcus Armstrong, Partner at Shulmans LLP, added: “Richard and the team have created an impressive business model at PPB which they continue to grow with this latest acquisition. The deal represents a commitment to expanding its operations in the south and is also helping to safeguard skilled jobs in the region. Having worked with PPB for some years now, Shulmans is delighted to see PPB go from strength to strength and become synonymous with high quality manufacturing and distribution within the sector.”
