Major East Gateshead industrial business park takes shape

The erection of steelwork has been completed on a £5.7m industrial development in East Gateshead, as construction work reached another key milestone.

The new business park sits in the shadows of Gateshead International Stadium and is the biggest private, speculatively built project of its kind in the area for 11 years.

Robertson is constructing five steel portal framed buildings on behalf of Langley Holdings, which is developing the six-acre site at Baltic Park on Saltmeadows Road, Gateshead.

When complete, the site will comprise of 11 new industrial units totalling 97,000sq.ft (9000 sq. m.) with unit sizes ranging from 375 sq. ft. (221 sq. m) to 48,500 sq. ft. (4,506 sq. m).

Bernard Watson, Langley Holdings’ Group Commercial Director, said: “GVA and Robertson North East are working well together, to deliver this project which is progressing well and remains on target for completion in early autumn.”

Commenting on the completion of the steelwork, Garry Hope, Managing Director of Robertson North East, said: “The sheer scale of what has been achieved on site already is testament to the team’s skills and expertise”.

“This new facility will be a key asset for the area, and one that we hope will bring economic benefits for the communities surrounding the site.”

GVA is the sole letting agents for the scheme and the units will be available to rent on full repairing and insuring leases from September 2018.

Danny Cramman at GVA, added: “Baltic Park offers easy access to the A19 and A1M as well as Gateshead town centre and Newcastle city centre. We anticipate strong market interest in the extensive range of high specification units at this location”.

GVA is providing Project Management and Planning Consultancy services on the new build construction scheme, and is also the retained Property Manager for the adjoining Saltmeadows Road Trade Park and Industrial Estate.
