North East law firm Hay & Kilner is set to represent the region in the finals of a prestigious national awards initiative.

The Newcastle-headquartered practice’s specialist commercial property team has been shortlisted in the Team Of The Year category of the 2019 LawNet Awards, which recognises ‘teams which have delivered an exceptional performance during the past 12 months.’

LawNet is a nationwide network representing over 70 independent law firms right across the UK which is committed to driving rigorous quality standards and best practice in the legal sector.

Hay & Kilner will be going up against rivals from Hertfordshire, Exeter and Bristol at the Awards‘ gala dinner, which take place at the Celtic Manor resort in south Wales on 8 November.

The firm previously won the Property (Commercial) category in the 2018 Northern Law Awards, while industry ‘bible’ The Legal 500 described its commercial property team as providing “a service that has always been second to none and “by far the best law firm for commercial property purchases and leases.” Chambers also commented that ‘they are fast, accurate and give good advice’.

The team predominantly acts for owner-managed businesses across the North East, although it also works with clients with properties right across the UK, and it has particular expertise in the housebuilder, care home, leisure, residential and commercial development, investment, agricultural and rural sectors.

High-profile property projects on which it has recently worked include the opening of the stylish Hibou Blanc bar and brasserie in Newcastle’s Bigg Market, the move by a fast-growing North East energy consultancy into prestigious new offices at a well-known regional business park and the sale of a multi-let office building on Newcastle’s Grey Street.

Nicola Tiffen, partner and head of Hay & Kilner’s commercial property team, says: “We’ve had a really busy and successful 12 months, and it’s great to see this sort of national recognition resulting.

“The North East commercial property sector across the region remains very active, especially within the residential development arena, and we’ve helped a wide range of projects come to fruition over the last year.

“Commercial property deals are moving quickly, with housebuilders, developers, landowners and agents are keen to get things done, and investors and funders enthusiastic about enabling them to be completed.

“We’ve been shortlisted for this award alongside some very successful and well-regarded firms from across the UK and hope we’ll be able to bring it back to the region next month.”

Established in 1946, Hay & Kilner is one of North East England’s leading independent law firms and provides a full range of legal services to businesses and individuals from both within and outside the region.
