Work has started on site to deliver 10 new affordable homes in Thornaby, Teesside.

Constructed by PF Burridge for North Star Housing Group, the two bedroomed houses will occupy the former SD Print Works site. All homes will be available for Affordable Rent, set at 80% of the market rate. North Star have accessed grant support from Homes England towards this £1.4m project.

Emma Speight, Executive Director of Assets and Growth said: “North Star is delighted to work with PF Burridge on this new build scheme, helping to increase the number of homes we offer by delivering two bedroomed properties for the people of Thornaby.”

The Millbank Lane development is the second scheme commenced in the borough by North Star Housing Group and PF Burridge in the last 12 months. Its first, at Darlington Lane, comprises seven two bedroomed bungalows for the over 55’s and is now complete.

Commercial Director at PF Burridge, Stephen McCoy, said: “We are delighted to have secured these two opportunities to work with North Star as we seek to respond to government driven agenda to increase the number and quality of new homes being built, year on year, addressing our region’s housing shortage.

“This is an exciting time for Teesside, with significant investment and regeneration which is transforming the area for the benefit of existing and new families.”

PF Burridge Construction, which recently celebrated 50 years in business, is expanding into the new rented homes sector, having specialised in refurbishment work and commercial new build.

The business – which is based on the Benton Square Industrial Estate in Newcastle but also has a depot in Wakefield, Yorkshire – employs 160 people and has built a sound reputation carrying out refurbishment and repair contracts throughout the North of England for universities, hospitals, housing associations and private sector clients.

The properties at Millbank Lane, Thornaby will be completed by summer 2020.
