An independent animal shelter in Newcastle has received a £1,000 donation from Barratt Developments North East towards rebuilding its cattery.
Brysons Animal Shelter provides a safe haven for cats, dogs and smaller animals without a home and has a service dedicated to suitably matching adopters to their new pets. The donation from the 5 star housebuilder comes after its employees ‘donated a day’ at Newcastle Dog and Cat shelter and helped with gardening and cleaning the kennels in preparation for its reopening.
Founded in 1947 by Bill Bryson and his wife, the shelter began as a sanctuary for retired and neglected horses and donkeys. Today, ten members of staff work to ensure the health and happiness of the animals are met by providing around the clock care and offer friendly advice to interested adopters.
Brysons Animal Shelter Manager, Tracy Holmes said: “We’re overjoyed Barratt Developments North East has given its support to our shelter. We don’t receive any funding from the government and we rely on the generosity of volunteers and donations.
“Our cattery is 25 years old and we’ve been fundraising for a few years to replace it. The Covid-19 pandemic set us back significantly and the £1,000 will help bring us one step closer to rebuilding it.”
Matthew Pattinson, Marketing Coordinator at Barratt Developments North East commented: “We hope the donation makes a real difference to Brysons Animal Shelter. The team does so much to ensure their animals have the best quality of life and we hope our donation helps to highlight that and encourage other donors to help towards the new cattery”.
