FAST FIT FUNDRAISERS: Stevan Gibson and Tom Moody from North East Auto Services Peterlee branch celebrate helping to raise £1,429 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A campaign by one of the North East’s largest independent fast fit chains has raised more than £1,400 for cancer charity Macmillan.

North East Auto Services (NEAS) chose Macmillan as its charity of the year last month and the Davanti Tyres dealer launched its fundraising effort by offering customers free tyre checks and puncture repairs throughout October.

All drivers had to do was make a donation – of any amount – to Macmillan either in cash or via the NEAS justgiving page.

Donations could be made at North East Auto Services’ sites in Chester-le-Street, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Peterlee and Great Ayton. Having totalled up donations across all sites, NEAS customers raised £1,429.82.

“We were absolutely stunned by people’s generosity,” said NEAS owner John Alexander.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. The reason we chose Macmillan was because a number of our own staff suggested it having had a personal connection to the charity’s work.

“But this was the first time we have done anything like this so we didn’t know how much we would raise. For people to donate so much in just five weeks says a lot about our customers and our community.

“We are proud to be able to give this money to Macmillan to support families across the North East who are living with the impact of cancer.”
