More than 250 insolvency and restructuring experts will be heading to the North East next month after leading trade body R3 chose to hold its annual National Conference in the region for the first time.

The three-day event, which is being held at Slaley Hall near Hexham, will see experts from right across the UK as well as overseas debating key issues relating to the evolving UK insolvency and restructuring framework, and their impact on the way insolvency practitioners and restructuring professionals can work to save struggling companies and the jobs they sustain.

The conference will open with an update on the current climate for businesses and individuals from BBC Economics Correspondent Dharshini David.

It will also see presentations from outside speakers on a range of wider business matters, including the Insolvency Service, the Pensions Regulator, the Small Business Commissioner, and HMRC, and will be themed around the idea of “broadening horizons” to help extend the focus onto the turnaround, restructuring and advisory work that members of the profession carry out alongside formal insolvency procedures.

R3 promotes best practice for professionals working with financially troubled individuals and businesses, and draws its members from many of the best-known names in the regional and national professional services community.

Duncan Swift, President of R3, says: “This event will provide an opportunity for restructuring and insolvency professionals to hear from key policy makers and influencers, a high-quality cast of established and emerging leaders in our profession, and keynote speakers who will challenge conventional thinking to broaden our horizons.”

Andrew Haslam, chair of R3 in the North East and head of specialist business advisory firm FRP Advisory LLP’s Newcastle office, adds: “The region has a thriving community of highly skilled insolvency and restructuring professionals who make a huge difference to the well-being of the North East economy, with much of the work that we do going ‘under the radar’ to ensure crises are averted before they happen.

“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming our peers from around the UK and beyond to the North East, and to showing them why we believe our part of the world is such a special place.”

Amy Towers, event sales office manager at Slaley Hall, says: “We are delighted that R3 has chosen to partner with us on such a significant event.

“Our dedicated events team thrive on these opportunities to deliver the warm welcome and conviviality that our region is famous for. We hope this will be the beginning of a successful relationship and Slaley Hall Resort are looking forward to greeting all the delegates.”
