Redcar solicitors shout out to the community to support women’s aid charity

Redcar-based law firm Cygnet Law will be holding their Annual Sponsored Walk to raise funds for Redcar based charity, Eva Women’s Aid.

The annual walk will take place on 19th July 2019 along Redcar Beach and everyone is welcome to join to help reach the target set. In previous years families and dog walkers have joined the Cygnet Law team for the charity walk along the coast.
It has been widely reported in recent months that EVA have had cuts to the funding of their counselling services.

Gemma Brooke, a Solicitor at Cygnet Law, said: “EVA Women’s Aid has provided support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Redcar and Cleveland since 1987, and we’re delighted to be supporting them again this year with our sponsored walk.

“Whilst the recent cuts have placed further strain on the funding of counselling services, it also demonstrates more than ever the need of the community to rally around to help EVA continue to provide the services that they offer to help and protect vulnerable women.”

Richinda Taylor, CEO of EVA Women’s Aid, said: “The funding cuts will mean a significant loss to the community and puts the counselling service at risk, so we’re grateful to Cygnet Law for choosing us as a charity to support.

“We provide sexual violence support services – victims of rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse. Each year, we work with hundreds of women, young people and children who will have been victims of this kind of abuse and violence.

“We’re the sole providers, giving specialist support through our rape crisis-trained counsellors and losing 15% of our income, will not only hit the counselling services we provide but affect five of our 23 staff.”
