Fish Box in Robin Hoods Bay, the express style fish and chip restaurant and takeaway owned by Fusco’s of Whitby, has been shortlisted as one of the North East of England’s top fish and chip shops, as part of the prestigious 2019 National Fish & Chip Awards.
Nominated for the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award, Fish Box is one of just 60 outlets from across the UK to be in the running for the accolade, organised by Seafish; the Non-Departmental Public Body which aims to improve efficiency and raise standards across the seafood industry.
The business, based on Bay Bank, is the only one from Whitby to make it onto the list and will be competing alongside six other businesses from within the North East region.
Stuart Fusco of Fusco’s of Whitby comments: “We are absolutely thrilled that Fish Box has made it into the final 60. We won the prestigious accolade back in 2014 for our Quayside takeaway, but this is the first time that we have entered the Robin Hoods Bay shop. We have a fantastic team of hardworking staff that continue to ensure that all of the meals we serve are of the highest quality. We’re all excited for the next round and can’t wait to see if we make it into the final 20.”
The 60 shops to make it onto the shortlist have all been judged on more than just the fish and chips they serve. Sustainability, menu innovation, catering for special dietary requirements, customer service and marketing are all part of the package of what makes these shops the best in the country.
Over the coming weeks the finalists will undergo a further phase of mystery diner judging inspections in order to whittle the list down to 20, then a Top 10 will be revealed in September, before the final stage of judging in London in January 2019.
Fusco’s of Whitby is a family run business, with fish and chip outlets in Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay including Quayside, Royal Fisheries, Fish Box Whitby and Fish Box Robin Hoods Bay; as well as the Whitby Fish and Chips catering trailer.
