Smart Works Charity Teams-up with Thrive Law to Empower Women in the Workplace

Smart Works, a charity that provides high quality interview clothes to unemployed women and official charity partner for Leeds-based law firm, Thrive, recently supported them on their first Visibility in Business event.

Named Social Action Charity of the Year 2017, it’s Smart Work’s mission to ensure any woman in need should have access to a Smart Works centre.

Leeds-based Thrive Law, led by employment solicitor and mental health campaigner Jodie Hill, launched their initiative; Thrive Women, to connect and empower motivated women to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Their first event since the partnership, entitled ‘Visibility in Business’ was on the 28th of June in Leeds at the Everyman Cinema and welcomed heavy-hitting specialists from the world of journalism.

Former BBC Look North Presenter and Freelance Journalist Chrita Ackroyd was joined on the panel by Former BBC/ITN Editor Camilla Mankabady and Yorkshire Post Business Journalist, Lizzie Murphy.

Camilla Mankabady commented:
“Smart Works is a fabulous organisation that helps to empower women who need a helping hand. Looking good and feeling good should not solely be the preserve of the wealthy. Supporting women back into long term employment is positive both for the individual and for the wider community.”

The event was well attended by women across a multitude of sectors from the Leeds city region and beyond.

Helen Oldham, Chair of Smart Works Leeds said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Thrive Law, their Thrive Women initiative is the perfect fit for the Smart Works brand and ethos and the event on the 28th of June is a real testament to their commitment to women’s empowerment”.

The nationwide initiative has recently announced the launch of its Leeds centre, the eighth of its kind around the country.

Jodie Hill, Managing Director at Thrive Law said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that Thrive Law and Smart Works have been able to partner in this valuable initiative. Our ethos of mutual support and empowerment will help equip the region’s women with the essential preparation and clothing to enable them to thrive in an interview, regardless of their background and circumstances.”
