SSG Insight publishes new global healthcare tech report

Yorkshire-based SSG Insight, the international leader in smart workplace management solutions, has published a global healthcare guide to transforming patient outcomes in an era of digital technology.

The paper, titled Healthy Futures, compiles latest research from leading institutions to investigate the state of healthcare systems around the world. It analyses the common pressures, highlights the key differences and explains how change can bring about a more effective future. It is the first in a series of reports that will investigate the links between healthcare and the transformative power of digital technology.

The two major pressures bearing down on all existing healthcare systems – the demand for innovation and the cost of supply – are reflected in the paper as rationale for why change is needed across the world. It argues that macroeconomic indicators, such as health spending as a percentage of GDP and longevity of a population, are too simplistic to explain the efficacy of health systems and compares the systems of several major and emergent economies, including the USA, Brazil, UK, India and China. The world’s top three-ranked countries for health – Singapore, Luxembourg and Japan – are also highlighted in the report.

The paper finds that there is huge opportunity – through the greater use of technology – to transform the way healthcare is delivered and details how big data, digital technology, AI, robotics and other innovations have enormous potential to bridge the gap from current realities to a better future. The three take-away actions from the paper are for healthcare leaders to think beyond hospitals and humans; develop pilots before scaling up and incorporate analytics into daily practice.

Jon Moody, Chief Executive Officer at SSG Insight, said: “The size and complexity of a healthcare system is never easy to manage and, when faced with this, many healthcare leaders feel they have difficulty in reaching even the foothills of a more coordinated approach.

“This Healthy Futures paper illustrates how the status quo for healthcare is clearly not sustainable. Change will not be a choice, and the report details the actions that healthcare leaders can take now to ensure relief from the major pressures bearing down on current healthcare systems.”

The paper also highlights the seven signs which indicate that better patient outcomes are being achieved by healthcare providers. These are in line with a Global Health report from Deloitte and include clinicians using technology and data to accurately diagnose and treat illness and deliver care, staff concentrating on what they do best rather than administrative tasks and patient power – ensuring patients are informed and actively involved in their care plan.

SSG Insight has created the Healthy Futures paper off the back of its work with some of the world’s most innovative healthcare institutions. Fiona Stanley Hospital in Western Australia is one of several hospitals experimenting with technology to better manage resources and improve the patient experience. SSG Insight has been provided a fully-integrated service helpdesk and maintenance and FM system, managing over 80,000 service requests per month, for the entire Fiona Stanley site since 2014.

Jon added: “It is fantastic that Fiona Stanley Hospital is leading by example and embracing a truly integrated workplace system that delivers real insight and value across its site. We hope that our Healthy Futures paper will inspire other healthcare institutions across the globe to champion technology and digitally transform their operations.”
