Strong support for new McCarthy & Stone retirement apartments in Ossett

Elevation of the proposed McCarthy and Stone development in Ossett

Plans for new McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living Plus apartments in Ossett have met with strong local support at a public exhibition.

The proposal would see approximately 60 apartments built on the site of a former medical centre in the centre of Ossett, near Wakefield. McCarthy & Stone Retirement Living Plus apartments are available for people over the age of 70 and feature communal facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, bistro, guest suite, electric scooter storage and lift access to all floors.

Residents showed their support at a public exhibition in June, and McCarthy & Stone intend to submit a planning application to Wakefield Council in the next few weeks.

McCarthy & Stone is the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities. Customers are able to leave behind the burden of maintaining their previous home and enjoy a low maintenance lifestyle where daily tasks like gardening, taking the rubbish out and fixing taps are taken care off. McCarthy & Stone customers live with like-minded people, make new friends and eat better in our restaurants. That reduces loneliness and provides peace of mind, helping customers to maintain independence.

“This site in the centre of Ossett is ideal,” a McCarthy & Stone spokesman said. “With easy access to local shops, amenities and public transport, it will be a real benefit to the community. We have already had a lot of interest from potential purchasers – most people in our developments have moved locally, often freeing up a larger home in the area for a family to move into.”
