Success on the menu for healthy catering business thanks to Onstate

Success is being handed on a plate to a recently launched healthy catering and meal delivery service thanks to Leeds-based ecommerce agency Onstate which has launched a new website for the brand.

Lean Lunch provides healthy and nutritious meals delivered to offices and businesses exclusively in Leeds city centre. The online business is the brainchild of husband and wife team Sat and Charlotte Mann who established Lean Lunch after spotting a niche in the market for freshly prepared, balanced meals for workers in the city.

After registering on the website, employees of signed-up businesses can order delicious, nutritionally balanced meals direct to their desks. The meals are prepared daily by Lean Lunch chefs at kitchens on the city centre outskirts and delivered by dedicated cyclists on Danish delivery bikes.

Onstate created and built the site in WordPress and WooCommerce turning Sat’s original vision for the business into a reality. The team also designed the Lean Lunch logo and all branding elements for everything from the site to the packaging and bike branding. Onstate works with a range of retail and lifestyle brands including Alexa Chung, Brown Thomas, Fraser Hart, Eden Being, Crockett & Jones, The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) and Bella Freud.

The website build was complex as such a varied menu choice is offered. Richard Day, creative director of Onstate commented: “Lean Lunch is the perfect example of an entrepreneur using online to reinvent a straightforward business concept. Carefully considered nutrition is central to the Lean Lunch offering so presenting this in as simple and easy to follow way as possible was one of the key goals.

“Menus are different every day in order to reduce waste which also allows them to be chef made each day. This required customisations to handle a non-traditional catalogue and additional options for downloading orders each day. The tech supporting the site means that the Lean Lunch model targets city centre businesses to sign up for the benefit of their staff who can order for themselves or for business purposes eg customer meetings or team gatherings. Building on early feedback, click and collect for businesses and individuals is next on the menu for development.”

Consultant chef for Lean Lunch is Matthew Benson-Smith, who has had a glittering career including several AA rosettes, awards and Michelin recognition, as well as a stint as chef to the Prime Minister, John Major.

Sat Mann, Lean Lunch founder said: “We’ve had a fantastic response from the business community of Leeds since launch, attracting big employers such as PWC and SkyBet. The Onstate team got fully behind the concept from an early stage and have really helped to bring it to life.

“We wanted to make it as easy as possible for businesses with a health and wellbeing policy to provide their employees with online access to well-balanced, nutritious food on a daily basis. Many of them recognise the benefits of this without having access to a practical or modern solution but thanks to Onstate we now have a robust online engine that works in tandem with our talented cheffing and delivery teams. After trialling this so successfully in Leeds, we are really excited about the impact Lean Lunch is having and its potential for the future.”
