Tyne Tunnels helps Percy Hedley Foundation towards fundraising goal

TT2 Limited, the operator of the Tyne Tunnels, has made a £500 donation to specialist education charity, The Percy Hedley Foundation.

The Tyne Tunnels Community Fund, which is run by TT2 Limited, has supported the Foundation on a number of occasions since its launch in 2011.

The Percy Hedley Foundation, which was set up in 1953 to support children with cerebral palsy, helps more than 1000 people each year and employs approximately 1000 members of staff, including teachers, special support assistants, therapists and educators. It runs three sites that support people with cerebral palsy, communication impairments, sensory impairments, complex learning, social care and therapeutic needs.

It costs more than £25million a year to run the Foundation, and although it receives funding from local authorities, the NHS and local government, much of the money must be sourced from donations and fundraising events.

The Tyne Tunnels Community Fund was established to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the second road tunnel. TT2 Limited strives to be a good neighbour to communities on both sides of the river, as well as in the wider customer base.

Shaun Simmons, Business Support Officer at TT2 Limited, said: “TT2 Limited has supported the work of The Percy Hedley Foundation for many years, and the whole team is in awe of the work it does. The young people in the region that use the Foundation often have very complex needs, however you can see them thrive with the bespoke care and programmes offered by the staff at Percy Hedley. It is a fantastic cause, and we hope to be able to support them again in the future.”

Maria Hallett, Community Fundraising and Events Manager at The Percy Hedley Foundation, said: “We are delighted that TT2 Limited has again supported the work of The Percy Hedley Foundation. Through it’s £500 donation, it has joined us in ensuring all disabled children, young people and adults in the North East have the opportunity to learn and grow throughout their lives.”
