UK football travel startup hits 70% of its crowdfunding target within 10 days

Football Travel Experience brand, Homefans, has launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, raising £70,300 in 10 days.

Co-Founders Luke Verbeek and Daniel Velásquez came up with the idea after their personal experiences and frustration with football traveling. Nowadays, football fans, especially millennials, are seeking for something beyond a ticket and a hotel night. They aim at collecting experiences. However, the market only offers them a basic product, the match break, in a more DIY approach. And, if they’re looking for a real experience, the only available option is corporate hospitality at a high price and not necessarily their fit.

Homefans fills this gap by organizing group trips to high profile games in handpicked destinations with unique experience beyond the 90 minutes. Travelers meet locals, go to pub nights and even play football at the club’s official training pitch. “We’re not a standard football package provider, we put a lot of effort on creating unique experiences and bring like-minded fans together to experience football the local way”, points out Luke.

After taking more than 250 travelers from 6 different countries across Europe for the past 10 months, Homefans decided to launch an equity crowdfunding to boost their growth. Daniel states: “We have a handful of new experience in place like a trip to Argentina or long football weekends on the road across different destinations. The crowdfunding campaign will help us launch them, scale up and, especially, involve the community to become a part of this journey”. In just 10 days, the company has secured 70% of the investment and plans to hit the target and overfund.

Homefans is already collaborating directly with professional football clubs, and its vision aims to change the way fans experience football in the UK and Europe.
