Unwritten celebrate five years by announcing scale up plans with new senior management team

L- R: Toby Bridges, Lisa McFarlane, Lisa Eaton, Nicola Quinn

As a result of new contract wins and a growing demand for an integrated approach to marketing, communications agency, Unwritten, welcomes three new team members in senior management roles, as well as strengthening the business’ digital capabilities with a senior developer.

After two decades working in marketing, founder and managing director, Lisa Eaton, established Unwritten in response to a gap in the market for an insightful and customer-focused approach to creative services.

From the founders and one designer working from a small Hoults Yard office, to the current team of 13 occupying the top floor of Citygate House today, a collaborative approach kept the business agile and able to respond to market trends.

Lisa Eaton said: ‘Our strategic approach, focussed on understanding customer behaviour, means that our creative campaigns have proven to deliver a robust return on investment and measurable growth for our clients. To date, we have worked with some incredible organisations such as Northumbrian Water, Newcastle University Business School, NHS International, and The National Innovation Centre for Ageing to name a few.

‘Expanding our service offering by launching a new communications service is the organic next step for the business. Our model is centered on delivering demonstrable results therefore reinforcing the value of joined-up, consistent communications. We are using the latest technology and digital tools to ensure the campaigns we work on resonate with the target audience and make a difference.’

Toby Bridges, Chair of The NBT Group, is appointed as the first Non-Exec Director of the business, following a number of years as mentor to Lisa. The NBT Group topped the NE Fastest 50 Growing Companies list in 2018 with Toby as CEO. The tech entrepreneur also sits on the Scale-up Advisory Board, an organisation backed by the NE LEP to support companies across the region.

Toby said: ‘Unwritten has scaled significantly over a short period of time, building an impressive track record and an excellent reputation for client services. Lisa has set ambitious targets for further growth over the next five years – this ambition is why I took the role with the business. I believe the team will achieve great things and I’m delighted to be on this journey with them.’

Nicola Quinn joins as PR and Communications Director. Over the past decade, Nicola has managed the in-house communications function for the UK’s sixth biggest charity, the RNLI, a global wind farm developer consulting for EDF ER, and Newcastle Airport. She sat as a Board Director and Trustee at YMCA Newcastle.

Lisa McFarlane, one of Unwritten’s first team members, is appointed as Operations Director promoted from leading the team as Head of Studio. During her decade in the design industry, she led the design of a state-of- the-art app for the NHS and has art directed some of Unwritten’s most successful creative campaigns to date.

The recruitment drive continues over the next six months with plans to appoint a new Creative Director and Head of Digital.

Lisa added: ‘The push to start the business five years ago is still the motivation today – to be the absolute best at what we do and produce work that drives a positive impact. We are incredibly excited for the future and building a business that makes a difference to the world around us.’
